Is it possible to create a date field so that when you create a new record it puts in todays date.  But when you open it days later and just look at it, that date doesn't change.. and another twist if you change any field in the record, the date field will change to todays date?

The first part is easy: use a DateTime field with a default value of =NOW().

The second part is not as easy, but it's not terribly hard if you know VBA. You'd need to program an event (VBA or macro) so that when the record is changed it automatically updates that field. You can literally do it with one line of code in the OnDirty event of the form. Just say:

MyDateField = NOW()

And that's it, but like I said, it does involve a little programming.
