Calculation with DLOOKUP
Steve Stram

I m looking for advice on how to set up a calculation; I have two separate combo boxes, IncomeCombo and FamilySizeCombo. One enters their income range and family size, with this information, their status is identified as Reduced, Free, or Ineligible in a text box. For example, to calculate if one can receive reduced fuel bills one enters their income and family size and a text box shows their status: Reduced, Free, or Ineligible.

Income combo box  FamilySize combo box
$20,000 to $30, 000  1
$30,001 to $40, 000  2
$40, 001 to $50, 000  3
$50,001 to $60,000  4

Thank - you in advance!

I'm assuming you have a list of values to determine who is eligible for what. You probably have a table like:

Income, FamSize, Result
20000, 1, FREE
30000, 1, Reduced
40000, 1, Ineligible
50000, 1, Ineligible
20000, 2, FREE
30000, 2, Reduced
...and so on.

What I would do is have a DLOOKUP function that looks up each of these values in the table and returns the result. For example, something like:

=DLOOKUP("Result","LookupTableName","Income=" & Combo1 & " AND FamSize=" & Combo2)

That's it. Easy as that. Easy to CHANGE the values later (if income qualifications change) and nothing is hard-coded into your database VBA or queries.
