Hi Richard. Apologies for the delay - I've not been able to spend time on this project recently. I have worked out a solution. I've created the query, copied this to excel, then imported this to a new table in Access, with Access assigning a new autonumber field. I've tested this, moving forward with our new methods, and this has worked.  Thanks loads and loads for your lessons which are giving me more confidence and knowledge to apply to our company database. I'm looking forward to continuing my education with you.

Diane, instead of creating a Query and copying it to Excel to copy back why don't you use the MAKE TABLE Query which is shown in Access Expert 16.
