Alex.  I looked at the Open Other Programs Seminar description and I have 3 questions about it.
  
1) Since I don't wish to actually have an image show in my form, but just a link to a file on my hard drive, and then a button to open the file in a new window, edit and re-save the file if changes are made,  do I need to take the Imaging Seminar as well?

2) Is there a reason why I would need to have a "shared images folder" under the above circumstances?

3) Will the files be saved in my database?  I do not wish for that to happen, of course, so as to keep my database size small.

1) Probably not but just because it says Imagining Seminar doesn't mean it's just for Images, it's OLE objects which could be other File types and would be useful to know.

2) It's a handy place to store all the files, you can then set that as a value in your db to always look in the same place for files, easier to set a backup job on that folder etc

3) Nope, Rich hates the attachment file type and advises not to, this way links to where the file is stored on your machine
