You mention that it is quite easy to just convert to a weekly, or daily calendar, I did not find it that easy, can you explain further?
Also, how can I add a more user friendly and realistic control for the calendar, usually you would have arrows to allow user to browse the following or previous period, you usually don't need to input the date in a date picker, also would like to see if I can add alarms, if I can add different calendars erg: calls to make, to dos, appointments set, must do today's. and then create lists of the items in each calendar where I would be able to address all items in sequence until done with the day or period.

The Template would be a good one to use.

The Advanced Date Seminar covers setting up alerts based on a DateTime you could combine the two.

You could extend the Event to have another Field which is a Type and show a Symbol next to the event or maybe some sort of colour difference.
