Product Options

Hi, I am working on expert level 7, regarding the vendor to products; what happens if your products have multiple options? Per the video what happens if your 3tb hard drive came in different colours and each colour option has its own unit price, would it just be a case of setting up a colour grouping? Then on the form have an extra drop down so you could pick the product and then the colour and you could see the unit price for this?

Ideally, you'd have an OptionT table to store the options for each product. Maybe I'll cover this in a future lesson if enough people want to see it. But yes, as the database is set up right now, you'd have to just set up multiple products: Hard Drive, Red. Hard Drive, Blue. etc.

Hi Richard
Just adding on to this, I have my list of vendors, products etc and my search criteria but in my first sub list box I have only the product and then the total cost for easy comparison between vendors but is there a way to then expand this so when a user clicks on the product, somewhere else, say a sub-sub box? it shows the breakdown of the costs, I managed to do this but it only shows the data from the first product on the list, would you know how to get this sub-sub box to update?

Sure. I'd have to see your database to tell you more, but you could use a subform and update it with some VBA, or use a little popup form.

Hi Richard
I emailed you my project, just wondered if youd had a chance to look at it?

I haven't received anything from you, but before sending me files, please read this page, especially the section on sending me files to look at. I try to help as many people as I can here on the Forums and with my TechHelp tip videos for free, but there aren't enough hours in the day for me to look at and troubleshoot databases.
