Database Cant be Opened Locked

By the way when one person is using access and someone else tries to open it to also work on data entry the following error occurs:

"The database has been placed in a state by user Admin on machine XXXXX that prevents it from being opened or locked."

Thoughts on this error. I assume multiple people can use the database at the same time. Is that not the case?

Normally, Access opens databases in Shared mode, which means multiple people can work with the file at the same time. However, if someone goes into Design mode (edits something) it will lock that object and MAY lock the entire database. To fix it, have everyone exit the database. If there is still a lock file (LACCDB) for that database, then delete it.

You may also need to Compact and Repair the database file. Also make sure nobody is opening the database Exclusively (Options > Client Settings > Default Open Mode should be Shared). Splitting your database helps with this problem since each user gets their own front-end file.
