Richard, I would very much like some videos on Access performance or a whole seminar on it!  I find that when a second person logs on to Access (thus 2 working over our LAN) the second person's performance is very slow.  I am trying to find time to see what I can do to speed it up, but your suggestions would be a huge help. Yes, Richard, it is a split database on our office network. Only two machines try to use access. I have thought of having runtime on other machines, but have not had time to do that, and so far it does not seem necessary.  I am sure I can trim some of the queries and am working on that, it's just that my time is very limited for development and I need to do my regular work as well!  I had hoped the changeover to Win 10 would make it smoother, but the slowness continues.

So is it the REMOTE machine (the machine that the database files don't actually reside on) that runs slow, or is it always the SECOND user to open the database? Is this peer-to-peer or do you have the back-end ACCDB file on an actual file server? Usually the bottleneck is network congestion. People tell me that THEY can use the database OK, but everyone else is slow and that's because the data is actually ON their computer. Everyone else has to pull it over the network.

Richard, the remote machine is always the one to run slow.  Working on the main machine (the "server" tho it is simply another desktop) works fine.  When someone is working on the remote, it is slower. When someone is working on the remote while another person is working in Access on the server, it slow even more.  Thanks for asking more, and looking forward to the runtime seminar.  Bonnie

I would love to know more how to do that. Right now my database is grown and I process the Compact and Repair but still kind of slow. I have my tables in SQL and front end in access.

Bonnie, your situation sounds more like a network speed issue. How is it transferring files over the network? Also, if you copy the ACCDB database file to the "slow" PC does it run OK there? That will tell you whether or not it's a network issue or if it's just THAT machine that is processing slow. The latter just means it's time to upgrade the PC. The former means you have a slow network. You MAY be able to optimize the amount of data being sent over the network. For example, when you open forms, don't open them to show ALL records, only those you need. I'll cover that in the Seminar.

I am on a home network and put my tables on a NAS drive for my shared split databases. Performance is noticeably slower than tables on a local drive. Any pointers on improving response times would be most welcome.
