The ststus bar works like a charm, only as the database prints to PDF, and it flashed an output ballon or window which is to some folks may be disturbing.  I looked up application disable and setWarnings do not work.  Any way to turn of the flashing or set it to background.
I like the status bar to be always on top.

You could try

DoCmd.Echo FALSE

That stops all screen output. Don't forget to turn it back to TRUE when you're done with the action though. :)
