No, you can have up to 255 fields in a table. Use them if you need to. However, in a properly designed table, I've never seen more than 20 or 30 fields. Usually if someone goes that high they don't understand proper normalization; for example they're using 4 phone number fields, or doing things like HoursMon, HoursTue, HoursWed, etc. when that should be in a different table. But if you are sure your data is normalized and is a one-to-one relationship with the primary key, then knock yourself out. They give you 255 fields for a reason.
