Concurrent Numbers

Hi

I have created a subform which links to my main form.

I am looking to see how I can have item numbers auto generate for each record that appears in the subform.

eg

stock item 0001 has a subform made of 4 parts
in the subform i have 4 records linked to the 0001 stock number.  I need the records to show 1,2,3,4 like an autonumber but every stock item subform needs to be 1, 2, 3 etc and if  i delete say 3, will 4 become the new 3??

stocknumber 0001  fixing kit 001

itemno stockno  part  qty
1      93849    screw   2
2      1828     nut     2
3      1823     washer  1
4      748      c clip  1

I created a tip to show Row Number in a Query.
It doesn't save to a table, its only for display purposes.

There are several easy solutions, like the one Alex pointed out, and this one, and this one, to display records with concurrent numbers next to them (display only) or to add the next NEW record with the correct number, but if you delete one, the only way that I can think of to automatically renumber those child records would be to use a Recordset. That's a more advanced concept, and it does involve a little VBA programming. I see you're only an Expert user. I could definitely add this to the next class (Developer 22) and cover it for you, if you want. It actually would fit right in with the class material we're covering now nicely.
