Long Text box closes on enter
Mark Fannin

I have a long text box for entering notes.  It works great when I made it on my stand alone computer at home (Windows 10).  I loaded the database on my networked computer (on my personal drive) and now the text box closes when the enter key is pressed.  How can I allow people to type in text and still use the enter key?

There is a property called "Enter Key Behavior" for text boxes. It's on the Other properties tab. Set it to "New Line in Field."

Richard's solution is much more friendly for your users. But in the off chance you don't know, you can also use Ctrl+Enter to move to a new line in any field.

Thank you.  The Enter Key Behavior doesn't work on the network  (works great on my standalone computer) - should have reported that in the original help request.  The CTRL + Enter does work.  I will have to train the plumbing staff (those guys get p.o'd at this stuff).  Thank you very much for your help.  So glad I am a member of your site.

That I don't understand. The enter key behavior settings should work regardless. Do you have different versions of Access on these machines? Also, the right way to enter new notes like this is NOT to append them onto the end of a text field, but to add them as new records. See the Contact Management database.
