Placeholder Text

Just a quick tip that might help some since I didn't see a current forum on this topic; I just figured out how to add placeholder text in a field.

Format tab, and type @;"Placeholder text goes here"

The text will appear gray in that text field. As soon as you click inside that field, the text will disappear allowing you to type.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I love when other people find things they've added to new versions of Access that I didn't know about. :)

I don't see how this is much different than a Default Value though. Looks like it's a value in the field to start with that can be overwritten by the user - just like a DV.

How long has it taken to get something so simple that has existed in .NET etc for years.

Time to swap out the mimic code of toggling a label on focus and other horrible hacks.

Well, it's technically a DV, you just don't have to backspace or delete all the text because it's not really there. One click inside the field and the text is gone automatically.

Yeah, I tried setting up two fields with placeholder text. If you just edit one and leave the other alone, the value stays. So it really is almost exactly the same as a DV. But you're right - clicking on the field erases it. That, I think, is the ONLY difference. :)
