Access And Websites
Scott Shirley

Hi Richard, I'm thinking of taking a course on "Websites with WordPress". I want to use my Access data but when I ask anyone about it I just get a blank look. Am I doing the wrong course or is my question above the skill-set of those teaching the course. Any idiot can stick a picture on a page and I get the impression that's all they'll be teaching! It's very expensive so I'd like to be sure. Thanks mate!

WordPress is a special kind of web delivery system where you type in your page text and upload images to it, much like Facebook. I'm not sure if you can use WordPress with Access. Honestly, I've never used WordPress. I built my own web site using HTML, ASP, and SQL Server (originally Access). If you'd like to send me a link to the course you're considering, I'll be happy to check it out, but my gut tells me what you want probably isn't covered.

Thanks Richard, I think your gut is correct! I've made man inquiries regarding this matter, but people here just don't seem to know much. I won't waste your time sending you the link as it's very vague and has no course outline as such. Would you be covering something like this in the future? Thanks for your time.

WordPress? Probably not. Building web-sites utilizing your Access data? Yes. I've covered it a couple of times using Access MDB files. I'm going to be updating it in the future using SQL Server. You can set up an online SQL Server database with an ISP like WinHost and then connect to that from your office Access database. That's how I have my web site and customer database set up and it works wonderfully.
