Access Query as Excel Data
Walter Hamilton

I'm trying to use an Access Query as an External Data Source for Excel.  The Query doesn't show up as available within Excel but other queries do.  I'll attached a screen shot of the list of queries within the Access Database and another of the list of queries available within Excel.

What kind of a query is it? Queries with complicated calculations, aggregate queries, etc. won't always show up as visible to Excel because Access has to perform those computations. You may have to create a Make Table query first then pull that into Excel.

Richard,

The query has a lot of helper tables in it.  I'll attempt the Make Table query and see if that works.  Thanks for the assistance.

Richard,

I was able to build a Make Table query and link it to excel.  The problem I'm having now is I get an error back saying the database has been placed in a state by user "Admin" on machine 'my computer name' that prevents it from being opened or locked.

I can open the database with the excel spreadsheet open, close the database and then update the record source but I can't open the excel spreadsheet with the database closed and update the record source.

Once you've created the table, export it as a CSV file. That may work better in Excel.
