Greetings, I'm looking to delete duplicate records. I have an access file representing 640,000+ files inventoried within approx 27,000 boxes.
Each line includes a box number (field #2) and a file number (field #9). While file numbers are unique, box numbers are listed multiple times.  
I'm trying to remove the duplicate box numbers to determine an exact count/inventory of boxes or more specifically retain one line per box.

Answer from Richard: Charles, you can either REMOVE the duplicate entries using a Find Duplicates Query, or if you want to leave that data in the table and just count up the number of unique boxes just create an AGGREGATE query and GROUP BY the boxes.

To do this, use an Aggregate Query... also called a Summary Query or Totals Query. There is a little button on the query toolbar that looks like a wierd "E" (actually the Greek letter Sigma). Press that and you get a new Total row. Just add the fields you want to group by (like customer name or ID) and the fields you want to run calculations on (like SUM, Count or Average) and there you go.
