Input Mask

on my helper form and table I got the phone number field and I used the input mask to as a phone number so when someone inputs the callers phone number it shows the brackets and dash too. However when we do input the phone number it's only 8 digits and not 10 and it gives an error message "The value you entered isn't appropriate for the input mask. I don't know what i did wrong. I went over your video on that input mask and still not seeing the problem.

That input mask is only valid for a 10 digit number. 000-000-0000. I've never heard of an 8 digit US phone number. 7 maybe if you don't include the area code.

I did something different. I deleted the ones in the table and am using the input mask in the Form. Now it works. Very strange why it acted up in the table.

Hey Richard, I watched your video on input mask again and finally caught on to what you said. When i used the input mask on the table I wanted the parenthesis in it, but i didn't count the spaces with the dash and parenthesis. Now i got the input mask back on the table and counted right this time. When i had it there the first time i was adding on the the phone number and there was the error, I should have cleared out the phone number and started from the beginning area code from left to right. That's what happened.

Sometimes it takes making a mistake and watching the video a 2nd time before you "get it." I do that too. That's why I always tell my students to watch the video once, JUST WATCHING IT. Then watch it a 2nd time and follow along by building the same database that I build.
