Text Format Validation

I have a request to force specific formatting in a long text field.  The intent is to ensure all entries are formatted exactly the same.  The problem is the comments in the field can change drastically.  We have a weekly update report that has historically been sent via email, but the c-suite is asking to have it included in our Program Management Database.  The issue we've always had is each program leader formats their reports differently.  We need to be able to generate a report of all programs with everything formatted identically.  Please let me know if that makes sense.

What do you mean by format?

You can force it all to be lowercase, uppercase, or proper case. You can check for values to make them use certain words or don't use certain words with an update event.

Really need to know what "each program leader formats their reports differently" actually means to help at all. What kind of layout are you trying to force?

I have fields for Operational Highlights and New Business Updates.  We I'd like to do is force a header in bold and then indent any sub-paragraph(s) that may be included below that item.  We are really looking just to ensure each person uses the same layout.

for example:

Header: The header should be in bold and then any further comments.  If there are bullets under the header they should be proceeded by some kind of bullet symbol.

Header: Again, the header should be in bold and then any further comments like above.

Hopefully that helps clear things up.

So you're looking for something like this?

Header
...Item
...Item
Header
...Item
...Item

Are headers a unique field from the paragraphs or are they all togethor?

Are there multiple headers/paragraphs inside one record?

You could make them enter the data into specific fields, and then build the text yourself in HTML and drop that into a LongText field. LongText with the Rich Text set to ON can use most HTML tags.

Richard - That will work. Thanks!
