I'm still working with your customer database all the way from the Beginner lessons. No, I haven't done every single thing that you've done to yours :) but I wonder... What are your top essential features that every business database should have? From employees to customers, are there any specific features that you think are a "must-have?"

There is no really "must-have", the only "must-have" is what you...must-have.

I love having employees/groups/login security and all the control that comes with it, but not every database I build needs that. If you're building an invoicing database you're going to need orders and customers at the least. If you're building an inventory database you're going to need products and something to control product check in/out. Really varies greatly on what you're trying to accomplish.

I would say for me, if I had to pick one thing, search capabilities are a must. With a good database you should be able to quickly and easily FIND anything you're looking for with minimal effort. That's why I took so much time putting together the Search Seminar.
