Check boxes instead of combo

Hello

Fist - thank you to all the users of this forum - this is a great place to learn Access!

Can I use check boxes in a form to create and/or remove records in a junction table?

I have a database for technical articles - my question relates to assigning subjects to the articles. I have one table that includes an ArticleID (auto-number) and ArticleTitle among a few other fields. I also have a subject table with SubjectID (auto-number) and Subject (short text). I used a junction table to allow for the many-to-many relationship between articles and subject.  Currently, I have a form to enter article data and sub-form with combo-boxes to assign the subjects to each article. But with over 30 subjects, this is a clunky interface.

For me, a better interface would be for the sub-form to show all categories with a checkbox next to each so I could easily check the ones that apply to each article.  That way I would not need to drop down the combo box and scroll through the list for each subject.  I cannot figure out how to make that idea work. Is there a practical way for someone with limited VBA experience to do this?

Thanks again

If you want to check multiple check boxes, you're probably going to have to go with a recordset, which isn't very friendly for limited VBA experience. If you are only wanting to check one checkbox per article, you could set the textbox to visible false and use unbound checkboxes with the afterupdate event to assign the value to the invisible textbox.

Thanks Adam.  I was thinking that this might be more complicated than I hoped.
I am willing to learn more VBA (I have some experience with creating VBA for Excel), in addition to recordsets what added topics would you suggest for me to study?

Thanks again!

There's a long list haha. Assuming you master the syntax of a recordset, you're going to need to know how to get all of the stuff you will want to use inside that recordset too. Things like DLOOKUP, maybe DMIN/DMAX/DCOUNT, getting values from a form, variables, If/Then statements, SQL. Those are a few I can think of that I use really regularly in recordsets.
