My apologies.  I didn't realize until this morning that my post "Splitting data for reading chart" was in the Excel forum.  

I looked at what you were talking about with the ChartNumber field.  After going back and looking at the chart already created, it actually reads off of a query rather than a table.  This is so that I can count and graph the total number of problems per student.  I don't see how I can create a sequential and unique ChartNumber in a query.  If we can do it programmatically that may have to be the solution.  But my VBA skills are even further behind than my Access skills.  I have your VBA intro tutorial but the solution to this is probably beyond that class.  ANy further suggestions?

You would need to put the counter in the table, and propagate that field up into the query... but yes, you would need a recordset to handle this. I have a whole series of classes on recordsets (plus this free tutorial, which isn't exactly what you need, but it might get you started). Perhaps when I get some free time I can make a sample lesson out of your example, but I'm pretty backed up right now so I can't promise anything soon. :(
