Distributing Access Front Ends
David Britz

Hi all, I've got a problem that might seem simple to solve, but has been frustrating. I have a client with a split Access database (back and front ends). Both are stored on a network drive and each of the four users has a copy of the front end on their desktop. The problem is that every time we do an update, because the users don't have access to that network drive, we have to copy the new front ends over each time.

Is there a quick way to distribute an updated front end database file to multiple users? One would think just have the users copy down the latest front end but either their network won't allow it or the users are not tech-literate and don't want to do it.

Access Updater This thing is amazing for automatically updating front ends. You just have to push out an update and they will be able to download the new front end automatically. I would suggest making an ACCDE for the front end for users and put the update location in a folder that the users have access to over the network and using that.

Yep. That's exactly what it's designed for. I have TWO workstations in my office (my PC and my Server) and even I am too lazy to roll my chair about 5 feet to install an updated version of the DB. That's why I built it. :)
