Inventory and Product Tracking
Gareth Adams

I am creating a product inventory db and following along with the Barcode Seminar.  In the extended cut of 599cd.com/invoicing Richard refers to 'covered in my full classes" at 33.54 and 43.57 minutes in. This is deal with tracking products and different methods of adding product info to an order table. I have gone through the full seminar and also a lot of developer classes but can not find to what he is referring.  Can anybody point me in the correct direction please?

Hi Gareth,

Richard shows Costing and Profit in Expert 7 Lesson 6 and,
how to increment the quantity on an order if the the product already exists in Developer 27 Lesson 2

In Develop 27 lesson 2, Richard goes through using SQL to update the quantities on the product order form.  I would prefer to use a recordset for this, has this been covered for this particular example or do I need to go back to Develop 16 and learn recordsets.

I'm not sure and was unable to find a recent class that covers this (does anyone else know?) I do know it was covered in the old Access 326 class for Access 2003. The code is pretty much the same. I usually write one sub for adding a product an another for incrementing the quantity. And use an If Block to decide which will run. Similar to the one below:

    Dim ID As Long

    If IsNull(cboProduct) Then
        msgbox "Select a product first"
        cboProduct.SetFocus
        cboProduct.Dropdown
        Exit Sub
    End If

    ID = Nz(DLookup("OrderDetailID", "OrderDetailT", "OrderID=" & Forms!OrderF!OrderID & _
                    " AND ProductID=" & cboProduct), 0)

    If ID = 0 Then
        AddProduct
    Else
        IncrementQuantity
    End If

Picking a product from a product combo box and having that information copied to the order is DEFINITELY covered in the Extended Cut for the Invoicing video. Starts around time index 32:00.

Now if you want the lesson that talks about incrementing the quantity of a line item if it's already on the order, that's Developer 27, lesson 2.

Remember, you can always search the INDEX for keywords.
