I am trying to append my Year cell to Projectnumber cell and get a resulting column for Project Id of the form YYYYNUM where Y is year and NUM is the project number I appended together. The problem is when I get the result (I make a new query and a new table). the resulting field in the new table grasps the Month and Date too, which I dont want. Is it possible to mask or eliminate the Month and date? Thank you

Answer from Richard Rost:

If you're using Access, the data is stored in FIELDS, not CELLS.

Now, you can use the YEAR() function to separate the year portion of a DATE field like this:

MyYear: YEAR(MyDateField)

Create that as a calculated field in a query. Now you have a new field called MyYear.

Now you can append that onto any other field like this:

NewValue: MyYear & ProjectID

Now you can use this NewValue in your other calculations, queries, forms, etc.

It sounds to me like you just need to learn how to properly create CALCULATED QUERY FIELDS. You can make a query that will perform math operations for you automatically.

Please see the following FREE video tutorial on my web site for step-by-step instructions on how to create calculated query fields:
