Hey everyone, this is my first forum post. If this is something that has been explored before forgive me.

I am extremely new to Access, but I am trying my best to use Richard's videos to build a basic database for my organization. I work in a tech support organization. I have 150 technicians supporting approximately 300 customers. My technicians are broken in 14 teams.

I have a table set up for all of my techs, another table for all of my customers. The table I use for my technicians has their name, email address, and the team they are on.

My problem is that sometimes technicians will move from one team to another. So for example, From June 1st-October 1st, Shaun Henisey might be on Team 3, but from October 1st on they are from Team 4. When I pull up their ticketing data, I need to be able to look at the date the tech worked a ticket, and i need to know the team they were on during that time period. Currently, I can only get my reports to kick back the team they are currently on- not the team they were on when they worked a particular issue.

Can anyone point me to a video or help me out on this?

I believe the inventory videos should cover this pretty well, or order detail videos. Basically you need to store that information in a table that isn't going to be changed. For instance if you put $10 price on a part, you need to store the $10 price in the order details, otherwise if you go and change that part to $20, then your order is going to show an incorrect amount too. If teamID is a value you will care about keeping track of with tickets, you'll want to add it to the table to store for that ticket.

Hard to advise a specific video without you being a techhelp member. The free version of Invoicing might help you see how he's handling the order details and you can change it to your needs to understand it. I would strongly urge you to consider becoming at least a silver tech help member if you plan on continuing to use Access. It's dirt cheap for all of the content it unlocks for you to watch.

Yep. Like Adam said, the Extended Cut of the Invoicing video shows how to do that. You basically use an AfterUpdate event with DLookup to copy the data to the record. I also cover this in Access Expert 22.
