database linked to txt files

I have a database I setup where the tables are linked to txt files.  The txt files get deleted and rewritten every night by another program.  Everything works fine, but now when I try to use the database in a multi-user environment, users are getting errors that the txt can only be used one user at a time.  I was thinking about changing the database tables to be imported (not linked) from the text files but don't know how to automate that import process so it happens automatically in the middle of the night.  Is there a way to schedule the task of firing off the saved imports or do you have another solution in mind?

Yes, I always recommend importing the data if its stored in text files. Even a single-user database can corrupt a text file. There's a command called TransferText that can be used for this situation. I covered it back in Access 308, which you should have access to. It's on my list to also cover in an upcoming Developer lesson. You can put it in whatever automated nightly routine you have running.

Hello Richard.  I clicked your link but I am unable to view the class.  I can only see a preview or have to buy it.  I thought my level of membership would include these classes.

You're a Developer MYOLP student, so you should definitely have access to it. I just logged on to your account and I can see it just fine. Log OFF and back ON again.

Happens to me all the time, can't get to the actual video from that page. Go into "My Courses" Here or click on it at the top then go to Access -> Access Old -> Access 2003 300 Level -> Access 308

First, I am using Office 365.  Apparently, the TransferText macro has been renamed to ImportExportData.  However, when I try to build the Macro, the action ImportExportData doesn't appear in the action dropdown menu. Any ideas?

You need to click on the Show All Actions Button.

Thanks Kevin.  That did it. Now I just need to figure out how to purge the table before importing the fresh data

Delete Query or SQL: "DELETE FROM MyTableT"

Yep, that worked great.  I also had to add an action to the top of the Macro for SetWarnings No and then at the bottom of the macro turn the warnings back on
