Totals in Tables or Queries
Gary Smith

Hi all,
I have a Quoting table with quoting detail table.
I would to total each line item, then mark it all up 10%, then show the grand total, then round that total up to the nearest 10.
Is it best to subtotal, mark up, retotal then round up each record in the quote detail table? Or should i make a query to do the total calculations at the end of each main quote id?
Then how do i get that final rounded total figure onto my report?
Many thanks
Gary

The truth is there isn't a hard, fast rule on which way you have to do that.
Many times you can do the calculations with in one line item.  Other times, the calculation becomes too complex and you need to use  a second query to manipulate the results of the first query.

I usually only round once.  Rounding multiple times, in my opinion introduces "rounding errors".  You can always format the numbers differently than what is being used.

Check out Calculated Fields for and example of using the totaling.
