Password and Back-up
Ariel

Hi,

I split my database into two, front end and backend. Where i would also like to store in different places. However, i am having problems when it comes to putting password/encryption. I'm using access 2007.

1. Whenever i encrypt my backend database, my front end totally screws up. It says "invalid password" everytime i try to link it, or do whatever with it. Is there something i can do about it? But when i place a password on my front end and leave my backend without one, there is no problem.

2. If i back-up my database from my front end, would it also backup the back end? or do i have to separately open my backend database and do the backup from there?

Thank you.

Answer from Richard Rost:

1. Setting a password for a linked database is tricky. You're going to have to supply that password when you connect to the backend. If you don't specify a password for it, your data is unprotected. As far as the specific problem you're having, I would have to see what it's doing to give you any more advice.

2. Backing up your front-end database does NOT automatically backup your back-end. You should make a manual backup of the back-end ACCDB file.
