Quick Concatenation Q
Dan Jackson

4 years ago
Hi Guys, real quick one

I have 4 Fields "Person1FirstName" "Person1Surname" "Person2FirstName" and "Person2Surname".

I'm using concatenation to combine with an "&" in the middle.

=====
Trim([LA1FirstName] & " " & [LA1Surname] & " & " & [LA2FirstName] & " " & [LA2Surname])
=====

For 2 people it generates "Joe Bloggs & Gill Bloggs". Perfect.

For 1 Person, it generates "Joe Bloggs&".
How do i get rid of that additional ampersand when there isn't a 2nd person? Thanks

Check out the Combining Names video.

Also take a look at the IIF Function

Cool, those videos were certainly good learning. at 3 different stages I hit brick walls because i have very few hours of coding experience (On this level anyway) but i persevered and managed it.

The Combining Names video was a great intro but then used the extended cut to do it properly. I'll take on the IIF another time (I get the concept, used to use IF in excel alot)

I tried Null math but was confusing when trying to combine the VBA from Combining Names Ext Cut and the NZ wouldn't work either. Fortunately, i was able to break down and some research later, I got success! That sweet sweet success!!

Thanks Again guys
