Sorting Continuous List Form
Carol Herriot

I have a continuous list form on the Main Menu of my Database.  When I click on the command button to open the list, the records are sorted by ID. How can I sort these alphabetically by Pattern Name?  Please see the attached screen shot.

A couple of options:

If your form is based on a query set the sort in the query.
Or, Set the RecordSource of the form to a SQL statement with an Order By clause.

For example:
Select PatternID, PatternName From PatternT Order By PatternName

Thank you Kevin:  My form is based on a table.  I am not familiar with SQL statements however. It looks as if this topic is covered in the access SQL Seminar - Part I.  Is this the best class to learn about this or is it explained in another class?
Please advice.  Thank you.

The SQL seminar is invaluable, especially parts 1 & 2. Highly recommended.
Did you try my example?

Carol, at the BEGINNER level, I would recommend just make two copies of your form, each sorted the way you want, and then make two buttons, one to open each. In the later levels you can do what Kevin suggested and dynamically change the SQL that feeds the form data right in your button. SQL Seminars. Search Seminar. I cover it in a lot of places. Filter Records is similar, but you'd change the Order By instead of the Filter.
