Tables v Forms
Julian Dyer

Hi

Just need clarification on compiling the database tables and forms.

I have tables which obviously holds the data and within the table I have combo boxes to allow the necessary information.

When I compile a form the data migrates over to the form.

I notice in Richards files table that there is no right arrow drop downs, these seem to only appear in the forms.

Am I doing it right or am I setting myself up for a fall at a later date say, too far down the line?

I use the forms to input the data, however, some tables are just for onetime only data,

Please don't use them in a table.
Create another Table and with a Relationship create a combo on a Form and select it that way.

Yeah, don't use Lookup fields in your table.
I would set up a helper table and use a Relational Combo Box in a form.
As Alex pointed out, Lookup fields are evil.

What they said. You shouldn't have combo boxes in your tables. Forms only. In fact you really shouldn't even be using your tables for data entry unless it's for testing stuff while you're building the database.

And data doesn't "migrate over" to forms. Data always lives in your tables. The forms are just a way of viewing that data.
