Can someone explain why I am getting an alternating message of Form View and Calculating... on the lower left hand side of my access window, not on the form itself. Either I have NEVER noticed it before, or I did something. EVERYTHING in the form still works correctly.

That's completely normal, it changes to calculating when it's processing an action you just made or an event is happening. Nothing to worry about.

That will happen when opening a form that opens to a specific record or one that has an associated sub form on it.
It could be caused by calculations being made when you enter data that has a dependent field on the same form - i.e. Cascading Combo Boxes. Could be caused by a timer event.  A number of things.

It really isn't something to be concerned about unless you are having issues.
If you are not doing anything and Access is just sitting idle do you see it doing anything?

If it really bothers you, you can shut it off.  File > Options > Client Settings > Display section.  Check off Status Bar.
