Access Options
William Farrar

I don't know what option I changed, but in new databases, the combo boxes do not begin to auto fill as you type in the field.  However, I can open previous databases and the combo boxes will auto-fill.  The caveat is that if I copy the combo box from the old database to a new database, it then does not auto fill!

I read in the Microsoft Forums that you cannot change Access back to it's factory default settings or remove and re-install Access to eliminate this issue.  Some of the options are written into the actual database that you created instead of a registry key of the computer.

I've only seen a few videos in which Richard has discussed changing various options in Access, but maybe he can address this issue as to what options are written into the registry and which are written in the database file that is created.

Good day, did you try changing the allow values in property? play with them and see what happens.

Is this just a plain simple combo box? Or is it one that has any events involved with it or a cascading combo box setup?

Also, is Auto Expand set to yes?

Just a basic combo box that looks up the name of a city (CityName) in City and stores CityID in the members table.  There are no events on this combo box.

Take a look at the Troubleshooter

Rule out the obvious first.

Next I would open a db that it is working and go to design mode Click the properties of the Combo Box.
Open the non-working one and put them side by side.
Compare the two right next to each other and see if you can see a difference.

This isn't something I've run into before.

If this just started happening restore one of your backups to a new folder.  Is it doing it in the BU?
( You are backing up RIGHT? )
