Combo Box Filtering
Mark Pierce

I have a combo box that shows part numbers and their descriptions.

In one data base I have you can click the dropdown arrow and then as you type the part number is moves sorts the list as you type the part number.

Example: as you type this part number 20121234 the drop down list moves to the closes number each time you enter another digit.

I have another database with the same Part number description setup but that list is not sorting as I type.

Can someone point me in the direction to help me understand why one works and one doesn't?

thanks,

Mark Pierce

Make sure Auto Expand is set to yes. It is under the Data tab.

I just noticed that when I open the part number query I see all the parts in the list however the combo box on the form that uses the query is maxed out at 255 lines of part numbers.

it is not sorting to the 2012xxxx series part numbers because the list is not long enough?? Is this a possibility?

Yeah something isn't right.  Can you please post a screenshot of your query and of your parts table in design mode.
You should be able to have pretty much unlimited numbers of parts.

Scott,
I decided to run some checks on the part number table and found thousands of duplicate records. That table gets an import update from Microsoft Dynamics and it looks like the update is messed up. I cleared out the data in the table and did a manual import and now the drop down list is working like it should.

chalk that up to another lesson learned!

thanks for the help.

Glad you got it sorted (pun intended).  That was a confusing one!
