Big Tip for New Users

Keep track of what you have created! This will save you a lot of searching for issues that do not exist.

I was trying to create a historical report on a table today and wondered why whenever I tested it my record was being over typed with my new record, but a new record ID appeared. (Using a Query as my control source)

Long story short, I had programmed the command button, which was an "Add Record" in the form to archive records to another table and delete it out of the table, then allow for a new record. Talk about Face palm moment where I had spent a great deal of time trying to find what was going on.

I have now traced the Archive table where all the history is that I need for my report. (Too many Tables, but all required)

The other thing to remember and I have learned is to be creative with naming tables, forms query's etc. so that they group together. In this case my Archive table was at the very top of the table list and the table that collects current data is at the bottom.

Hope this makes sense? and I am hoping someone else has made the same error...

I have experienced similar "hurting is learning" events. I have started a document that details every table, query, and report, and how they are linked (so I know if I make changes to one thing, it could affect another). I need to make sure I add button functionality to this.
