Search Form 2.0 Union Query

Hi Richard!

In my database I have forms for Directors, Shareholders and Beneficial Owners. I did a Union Query (same as your tech-help video) called UnionQ to combine the above, and labelled them as Officers. Called the form OfficerF

I want to add a Search Form (last name, first name etc) on my OfficerF.

In your Search 2.0 video, you created a CustomerListQ, and to feed that into the customer form, you changed the record source to CustomerListQ.

BUT for my OfficerF, the record source is already UnionQ. I can't add a second record source (because the form need UnionQ to work).

Do you have a Course Video that teaches how I can resolve this please? Or is it in the Search Seminar?

I don't understand what the problem is. You just use whatever query has the data you need as the recordsource for the form.

Hi Richard!

(screenshot from your union query video)

If you add a search form here for First Name & Last Name, is the list supposed to shrink to show just the results?

When I run the query (CustomerListQ) it works fine. But when I use it as the record source for a form like above, nothing happens when I search for the first name. Instead all the names keep showing.

I'm wondering if there's an extra step needed? Or I messed up somewhere?

I'd make sure your form is set to allow filtering in the properties box.
Also, go into the VBA editor and do Debug > Compile [Database Name]. See if any errors show.

It sounds like you have the query correct, but the form has an issue somewhere. Failing the above, watch the video again and go step-by-step, checking all your code as you go. Maybe a control is pointing to an old field etc...

The form you are showing in your screenshot works exactly the way it is supposed to. Click on an item in the Listbox on the left and display the data in the Subform on the right. The list won't limit otherwise you won't be able to choose a different item.

Hi Kevin!

You're correct! Mine is also a Listbox on the Left and displays data in a Subform on the right.

Saw the above when I was reading about the Search Seminar. It gave me the idea to add a Search Form, so I could filter the Listbox, and see their data in subform.

Is it possible ?

Yes, it is definitely possible. Most of what you need is covered in the Search Seminar. This is one of my favourite seminars.

Thanks Kevin! Will purchase it!

Also thanks to Dan for advise about filtering!
