New Seminar on SEARCHING
Mubeezi Micah

Dear Richard,
This is a great idea. Searching is something that you can never "dodge" while developing a database.
In addition to what my colleagues have suggested, I will add the following :
- Number of results found. You already cover this in the 320 series in two ways: ListCount for a listbox or RecordCount when using an SQL statement
-  Report showing the search results: After performing a search, you may sometimes  want to print out the results. In my database for instance, i may want to know which TB patients have not been tested for HIV. When i generate this list, i "get hold" of this dynamic SQL statement which then serves as a RecordSource for a printable report. The printable report can then be emailed or printed and shared with the nurse in charge of HIV Counselling and Testing. I have a similar thing for say the TB patients who come from a specific locality e.g., village/County. These patients can be followed up by the nurse stationed in that locality.
- Percentage relevance of the search result Vs your search criteria: I often see this on web pages. Is this possible in Access?
- Highlight text on a form/Listbox that match the search criteria. I guess this might involve some crazy programming
That is all i can think of for now. If anything comes to my mind along this month, i will certainly let you know
Greetings!
MICAH

Reply from Richard Rost:

Excellent ideas. Number of results found is good. Using the results in a report is excellent. Selecting from a multi-select listbox for criteria is excellent. I'm not quite sure what you mean by percent relevance... can you elaborate?
