What I am trying to do is there are bills that I am responsiable only half of. In the payee table I specify if the payee is a payee that splits the bill amount. so in the bill i would type the full amount of the bill and somehow it would check the payeet to see if that yes/no field is yes if its yes then a field on the bill table would take the amountdue and divide it by 2 and store that value in a field called shared amount.

OK, so on your BillT you've got the PayeeID. In the AfterUpdate event for the AmountDue field, say:

Shared = DLOOKUP("Shared","PayeeT","PayeeID=" & PayeeID)

(Or use PayeeCombo for the last variable if you're using the combo box).

Now you have the Shared value from the current Payee. I personally would create a second field to store this new amount rather than just automatically halving your AmountDue field... because what if you edit it again? It's going to get halved again.
