I cant find which video to goto. need to count and like in a field IE
table name InmateStudent
field name QuartersAndCell

the data looks like this
A01-124
A01-345
A03-456
C03-345
D02-123

need to find out how many A01=2 A02=0 A03=1 etc etc.
its for a field on a report.

Hi Lyle. You're first going to have to split those up. It looks like you want to take the LEFT(FieldName,3) and then you can feed those results into an Aggregate query like Juan suggested. See: String Functions, Aggregate Queries.

Crosstab query, perhaps? Then use that for a report.
