In doing the homework from Lesson 9, I put 2 unbound fields on the report and used IIF statements as the Control Source for IsPaid and IsQuote, respectively. (I even got the nested IIFs right.) Is this way ok, or is it better if the IIFs are in the Query?

The short answer is - if it works and the results are correct, that way is OK.
It's been quite some time since I took E10 and for Richard even longer since he recorded it. So I don't recall the homework.
In Access, there is often multiple ways of accomplishing the same task. One way is not necessarily "more right" than the other.
