I have a main form showing Employee details and a subform showing employee leave application. I wanted to count Total Day(s) Holiday each employee have taken. How can i Show the sum day of each staff from subform to the main form?

Subform Link master file: Employee ID, Link Child file : Employee ID

I have try : insert a txtTotalDay in the footer of my subform
putting the code in main form of source control (=[SF_Holiday Application].form![TotalDay]) it shown ?Name?

Appreciate if you could help me with this problem. Thank you so much.

Reply from Richard Rost:

Put an unbound text box in the FOOTER of your subform with the control source of:  =SUM(MyFieldName)  I cover this in Access 220.

This doesn't put the value on your parent form, but it's good enough for most circumstances. If you NEED to have it on your parent form, you'll have to use a DSUM function. That's covered in Access 310. It's a little more advanced.

You really can't generate a total in a subform and then read that value in the parent form. The timing just doesn't always work. It might work SOMETIMES, but it's unreliable. DSUM or DCOUNT is your best bet.
