Combo Boxes

I have been working on a non-conforming material database.  I was asked to set up a combo box with the items in our MRP/ERP database to make sure items are entered correctly.  However we have over 175,000 discrete items.  Not all of the items are not in the drop down list, about 72,000 are in the list.  Is there a way to get all items into the combo box?  One option I thought of was using a cascading combo box and grouping items by customers, suppliers, hardware etc.  I am auto filling the item details to assure we get the correct and current details for items entered into the database.
Thank you for any insight.

Sounds like it might be better to use a continuous subform and use a search box at the top if you want. Combo boxes aren't really designed to handle that much data

Yea with that many items, you're going to have to shrink it down somehow before it gets to the final combo box. You could either use cascading combos or a subform with filter fields like dan said, then just have a button on that to insert that item number into the item slot, both will get you a smaller list of items to choose from.
