Splitting database question
Don

Richard,
I have a question about splitting a database into Front end/Back end.  Forgive me if its a stupid one.
Does the computer with the front end have to have a licensed copy of Access on it?
My situation is this: our network spans between 2 hospital, and 3 other free standing clinics.  The only computer that has Access installed on is mine.  I would like to place the database on our shared network drive, and have the front end users open it.  But they don't have Access installed on their workstations.  Will this work?

Thanks,
Don

Reply from Richard Rost:

What you need to do is get the Access Runtime Edition (also called the Developer Extensions). Then you can put the back-end database on your server, and put as many front-end database on as many computers as you want WITHOUT having to pay for a separate license of Access for each one. See my previous blog post on the Access Runtime Edition.
