Calculated Fields in TABLES
DM Schulz

Can anyone share how they are using the calculated field data type in tables in Access 2010? I have a calculated field need and was wondering if that might work.

Reply from Richard Rost:

I'm personally not sold on calculated TABLE fields. I prefer to use queries to do all of my calculations and then use those queries in my forms and reports. That's just my personal preference though - and the way I've been building databases for almost 20 years. I think it, in many ways, goes against fundamental SQL logic to have calculated fields in TABLES. That's just me. I plan on SHOWING them in my Access 2010 lessons, but I'll probably argue AGAINST their use - unless someone can convince me otherwise.
