I know you like MS SQL Server but I was planning to split the database I'm rewriting and keep the front end MS Access, compiled, and at first keep the backend MS Access on the company servers. Eventually though I want to use MySQL for the backend on a web server. Will you be doing (if you haven't done) an addendum to this POS developer series that will include using MySQL for the online backend? Thank you, Ed
I can't speak for Richard but he's unlikely to be doing MySQL, unless enough people vote for it.
Are you using that to keep costs down? Or a pre existing setup?
The principles would be the same, just need the correct drivers installed

Cost. I also have more experience, such as it is, with MySQL and liked it a lot. I've used SQL Server here at work a little and don't like it much but that may be more because of the general environment. I pretty much have to prove stuff works before the company moves forward with it so it comes out of my pocket. I was surprised that they covered these classes for me and sort of live day to day wondering if/when they'll stop the classes. As they say though, make hay while the sun is shining so I've got my two pitchforks working.
Honestly, I was considering a MySQL seminar before SQL Server had the free "Express" edition. Now there's no reason. You can run an on-prem SQL Server for free, and Windows hosting with SQL Server is cheap.
