Conditional Format Wild Card

Can You use wild cards in conditional formatting? for example in a continuous form if I type EX 3421 I want to apply a color and text format, The part that would always change would be the number. So, if the field contains EX and anything else apply the conditional format. I did some searching I'm reading this cannot be done with wild cards, but I know Richard always has a way.

This can be done by adding a format condition that tests an expression, and the expression is [field1] Like 'EX*' if your field is named field1.  See picture below.  Wild cards can be used, but according to VBA syntax.

Very nice Kevin!  I just learned something new.

Thanks for your input.

Scott, you're welcome.  This can also be done entirely in a VBA module using the FormatConditions object.  Expressions can have a wide variety, so you can have many ways to format cells.  But if the expression is too complicated it could slow down the formatting.

Forgot to mention the key thing: the expression needs to have a boolean result; if it evaluates to true, the format is used.
