Connection String to SQL Back End
Dennison

15 years ago
Richard,
In the Access Security Forum, a Global Constant BE_DATABASE - "Filepath/Dbase.accdb" was created. When this BE is on an SQL server, what are the changes to be made in the connection string? This is what I've googled and tried
"Driver={SQLServer};Server=Your_Server_Name;Database=Your_Database_Name;Uid=Your_Username;Pwd=Your_Password;"

Are there any changes to be made in the loginF where we Set db = ws.OpenDatabase...?

Let me know which tutorials to purchase that cover this and recordsets.

Keep Rocking!

Reply from Richard Rost:

I have not covered this yet in any of my tutorials. I've got an SQL SERVER course coming up soon that will cover this. I'm on the road right now and I don't have my extensive book library available... and I don't know this off the top of my head... but your connection string looks good. You might also want to take a look at this page on Microsoft's site.

Although I teach DAO recordsets in most of my classes (because they're easier and better if you're working with JUST Access) I actually prefer ADO recordsets for working with SQL Server or ASP. If you've taken any of my ASP classes involving recordsets, that's what we use... and that's actually how I prefer connecting to an SQL server database from Access too.

Again, I'll cover all of this in my SQL Server seminar/lessons.
