Unique Computer Identifier
Mubeezi Micah

Dear Greg,

Thank you for your advice. I entirely agree with you in principle.
Sometimes, you have spent so much time developing a project and then you are licensing it to a user in a country whose 2010 corruption index was 1.6 and piracy rules are non existent... Now, that is partly my situation!

MICAH

Reply from Richard Rost:

There are a couple of things you could do. There are a few pieces of hardware in each computer that have unique identifiers. You could read the MAC address for the network card. Each hard drive also has a factory serial number that you can read with software. I don't know how to get these values off the top of my head, but I'm sure you could find VB code with a Google search. Once you have these IDs, you could just make a code based on them and then have the user give you that code. You could respond with a registration key that only works for that computer.
