I just can't gett my head around this. I have a table where I record the doctor treating the patient (DrID),the date he treated the patient (StatDate), type od patient(Wound Care or Hyperbaric),and the total number of patients treated that day (NumVisits).

I want the query to total the NumVisits per doctor for the month/year that I choose.  But I keep getting a list of every single date the dr treated, for each patient type.  I don't need to see this detail in the final report.  What I would like to see is:
Dr A  May 2010 Wound Care 20 visits
Dr A  May 2010 Hyperbaric 16 visits

and so on, for each dr treating for the month in question.  I've tried group by, sum, etc to no avail.  Just what am I missing?  Your help would be appreciated.

I would do this in a REPORT with a Sorting/Grouping level. You can group by month. Use a form to specify your start and end dates, limit the data in your query, and then group in in the report.
