Help with data entry form
Ben

I'm creating a data entry form to enter item arriving at a Paper warehouse. Each roll of paper will have a unique ID. However, they arrive with the same order#, Load Sheet, Date, are placed in the same location. I only want to key these items once. I'd like to use a datasheet view to enter the other info (ID, weight, etc.) I've tried a subform and split form but I can't get it to work the way I need. I want to enter (Order #, Date, Load Sheet, Location) on the form and have it populate the fields on the subform for each line entered. Any ideas on how I can do this? I don't know any scripting language and would like to do it without programmming. Thank you for your help.

Reply from Richard Rost:

It sounds to me like you need two tables: one for your order and one for your paper rolls. This should be set up as a one-to-many relationship. The order table will contain information on the order as a whole (order #, date, etc.) and the paper roll table will contain information on just that paper roll (ID, weight, etc.) INCLUDING THE ORDER ID that it was on. This is how you'll create your relationship. Once you have that relationship set up you don't need to duplicate all of the order information on each paper roll record. This is EXACTLY the concept covered in my Access 201 class on creating relationships between two or more tables. In the following class, Access 202, I show you how to set up this kind of a form with a subform... with NO programming involved.
